Ken Briggs: "This band was formed out of friendships made at the NEBS Blues Jams in Albany(formerly hosted by Steve "the Jam Man" Katz). I met Steve Katz (the late, great NEBS Blues Jam host) many years ago. I needed work done on an old rocking chair that my wife, Marla, wanted refinished before our first child was born. So I drove over to Steve’s old furniture shop in Berne at the convergence of waterfalls where routes 156 and 443 meet…and he looked familiar to me. It wasn’t until later that day that I realized where I knew Steve from…it was from the old NEBS Blues jams at Everyday’s. Some friends of ours in our town (Knox) had introduced me to a drummer named Dave Grapka from Altamont. After I jammed with Dave a while, he introduced me to Dean Kreplin and Fred Goodrum. We all got together at Dean’s house and Steve Katz was always encouraging us to play together. I was in awe Over Dean’s guitar-work then… And now I can honestly say how much I’ve watched his talents grow over the years. So Dean, Eric (Dean's son), Fred and Dave and I formed A group called “Mojo Magic” and Steve Katz hired us to play as the host band one night. We’d always listen to Steve’s advice. Steve had an ear for music like nobody else. We’d take a lot of value in his critiques and I think we all grew from what Steve taught us…I know I did! Then Mojo Magic split up and we all did different things…but I always had Steve play with us whenever we could…He’d always join Fred Goodrum and I on-stage at The Berne Knox Westerlo Talent Shows…I even had Steve booked to play the Gallupville House gig and Knox Town Park gigs in the summer of 2003…but that just wasn’t meant to be. (Steve's health problems were beginning to take their toll.) Steve Katz and the NEBS jams were instrumental In getting almost each and every one of the members of Nite Train together! He even introduced me to Marcus Benoit at a NEBS jam a ways back...and we've played in various band configurations ever since. An exception to Steve's introductions is my lovely wife, Marla Briggs, who I met as a High School sweet-heart who was the “girl up The street”. (My very first band played at her sweet 16 birthday party!) Another addition that we found on our own is when Marcus decided to do his own thing, I put an ad on Craigslist and was lucky enough to meet and then recruit the Powerhouse: Tad Holtz. Tad is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist who adds a LOT to the Nite Train's sound!!! The first time time Tad played with the "Nite Train", we were all impressed! Once we heard his vocals, Hammond B-3 (w/ Leslie cabinet) organ skills…we just knew he'd fit the “Nite Train” like a glove!”
Nite Train is a Smokin' Albany-area band whose infectious rhythms along with their unbridled enthusiasm gets crowds on their feet!!! The band's music is an exciting, soulful mix of upbeat jump-blues and danceable R&B with a kick!!! The group draws inspiration from Classic blues roots straight through to funk and blues-rock mainstays. Band members in the group met primarily through various Northeast Blues Society sponsored events. Now we've got several members of the Honestly Blues Society in Albany in our jam circles!!! Don't forget to check the Schedule page here regularly... 'Cuz Nite Train shows have been quite popular lately...and when THIS train leaves the station....You'll wanna be On-Board!!! "Nite Train" is:
Ken Briggs (Bass, Vocals), Dean Kreplin (Guitar), Tad Holtz (Keys/Vocals), Mark Foy (Vocals/Percussion), and Marla Briggs (Vocals)!!!
